ABSTRACT

The multi-generational workforce presents challenges for organizations, as the needs and expectations of employees vary greatly between different age groups. To address this, organizations need to adapt their development and learning principles to better suit the changing workforce. The DDMT Teaching Model of Tsing Hua STEAM School, which integrates design thinking methodology, aims to address this challenge. DDMT stands for Discover, Define, Model & Modeling, and Transfer. The main aim of this study is to identify the organization development practices (OD) and gaps through interdisciplinary models such as DDMT and design thinking. In collaboration with a healthcare nursing home service provider, a proof of concept using the DDMT-DT model was conducted to understand the challenges in employment and retention of support employees between nursing homes under the healthcare organization. The paper highlights the rapid change in human experiences and mindsets in the work culture and the need for a design curriculum that is more relevant to the current and future workforce. The DDMT-DT approach can help organizations address these challenges by providing a framework for HR personnel to design training curricula that are more effective in addressing the issues of hiring and employee retention. By applying the DDMT-DT model, HR personnel can better understand the needs and motivations of the workforce and design training programs that are more relevant to their needs. The proof-of-concept research pilot project conducted with the healthcare nursing home service provider demonstrated the effectiveness of the DDMT-DT model in addressing the issues of hiring and employee retention. The project provides a valuable case study for other organizations looking to implement the DDMT-DT model in their HR practices. Overall, the paper highlights the importance of adapting HR practices to better suit the changing workforce. The DDMT-DT model provides a useful framework for organizations looking to improve their HR practices and better address the needs of their workforce.

ABSTRACT

Teleconsultation is a type of medical practice similar to face-to-face consultations, and it allows a health professional to give a consultation remotely through information and communication technologies. In the context of the management of the coronavirus epidemic, the use of teleconsultation practices can facilitate healthcare access and limit the risk of avoidable propagation in medical cabinets. This paper presents the monitoring of international teleconsultation referrals in the era of Covid-19 to facilitate and prevent the suspension of access to care, the most common architecture for teleconsultation, communication technologies and protocols, vital body signals, video transmission, and the conduct of teleconsultation. ABSTRACT

IMPACTThis article explores the consequences of emotional labour on UK NHS ambulance staff and their response to the Covid-19 pandemic. It highlights the challenges faced by ambulance crews while dealing with their emotional labour within the context of organizational settings. Research findings also explain the importance of emergency responders' psychosocial wellbeing. The article has clear relevance as to how frontline staff manage their emotional labour in other emergency service settings, such as the police and fire and rescue services.Alternate :Managing emotions are essential aspect of many jobs, and frontline healthcare workers have to manage and control their emotions while caring for critically ill patients and working in an emotionally-charged dynamic environment;this was particularly the case during Covid-19. Ambulance workers are an important group in this respect but they are currently under-researched. Evidence behind this article comes from data collected from an NHS ambulance trust in England. One of the key contributions of this article is to highlight how frontline ambulance professionals manage their emotional labour while working within the stipulations of organizational constraints.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the death of many people around the world and has also caused economic problems for all countries in the world. In the literature, there are many studies to analyze and predict the spread of COVID-19 in cities and countries. However, there is no study to predict and analyze the cross-country spread in the world. In this study, a deep learning based hybrid model was developed to predict and analysis of COVID-19 cross-country spread and a case study was carried out for Emerging Seven (E7) and Group of Seven (G7) countries. It is aimed to reduce the workload of healthcare professionals and to make health plans by predicting the daily number of COVID-19 cases and deaths. Developed model was tested extensively using Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and R Squared (R2). The experimental results showed that the developed model was more successful to predict and analysis of COVID-19 cross-country spread in E7 and G7 countries than Linear Regression (LR), Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). The developed model has R2 value close to 0.9 in predicting the number of daily cases and deaths in the majority of E7 and G7 countries. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

Aim: The specific aim of the study was to assess the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on nursing faculty experiences.Background: Academic nursing experiences were disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There is concern that the resulting stress threatens nursing faculty emotional well-being and reason to burnout.Method: A descriptive, quantitative study was conducted;exploring faculty academic and clinical roles during the COVID-19 pandemic by using structured, self designed, open-ended questionnaire to 401 institutionally attached nursing health professionals. The questionnaire includes various domains including Safety and Health, Challenges for teaching, clinical practise, supervision perception of institutional support provided;faculty burnout, satisfaction, and well-being.Results: Overall satisfaction with the working environment in the institutions with respect to total teaching experience showed a significant statistical. Participants perceived support from academic institutions and increased need to provide emotional support to students.Conclusion: Nursing faculty are essential to the profession. Nursing faculty require proactive and sustained institutional and personal support to provide exceptional ongoing education, build resilience, and support students.

ABSTRACT

Organizations worldwide are racing to create policies, processes, and actions to ensure the safe return to work in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Verifying, collating, and sharing data on COVID-19 test and vaccination status has been a key part of this, supported by employee-held digital certificates often referred to as "vaccine” passports. Since ensuring the safety and well-being of employees is a key remit of Human Resource (HR) departments, HR professionals have had a central role in managing these changes, even more so in the context of government vaccine mandates. This chapter examines sociotechnical considerations for HR professionals managing these new demands. It draws on an analysis of key dialogues within the HR community published in grey literature, interpreted through the lens of the technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework, adapted for the context of COVID-19. By examining the state-of-the-art and proposing recommendations it aims to assist HR managers to facilitate employees' safe return to work while navigating this complex issue and minimizing any potential negative impact on employees' safety, well-being, performance, or engagement. Although vaccine passports may not be a permanent feature of the work environment, we believe this chapter still makes important theoretical and practical contributions. It fills a gap in the evidence on HR professionals' perspectives on HR management during public health emergencies and discusses emergent HR capabilities that could prove useful in a future pandemic. ABSTRACT

This study aimed to optimize the line managers performances in the human resources (HR) division in answering the role of the HR management function problem in Medan City Manufacturing Company. The novelty proposed is a concept of HR management called "Human Resources Professional Transformation". Specifically, this concept discussed the ability of HR division line managers to make adaptive changes to the company's business-oriented functional divisions with managerial competence, commitment, innovation capability, and readiness for changes towards work performance. The population of this research was the line manager of the HR division, totaling 185 respondents. The sampling technique used a probability sampling approach with simple random sampling through the slovin formula, totaling 126 respondents. The analytical tool used is structural equation software through the SmartPLS application program. The results showed that managerial competence, commitment, innovation capability had a positive and significant effect through the HR professional transformation on the performance of line managers in the HR division. Meanwhile, readiness for change has a positive and insignificant effect on the HR Professional Transformation. Readiness for change also has a positive and insignificant effect on the Line Managers Performances in the Human Resources Division through HR Professional Transformation. Based on the suitability test of the research model, it proved that the HR Professional Transformation can answer the problem of the role of the management function to improve the line managers performances in the HR division with managerial competence, commitment, innovation capability, and readiness for change of 0.907.

One of the most significant and well-publicized prevention practises for Covid 19 is hand cleanliness. Face masks and social withdrawal are useless without good hand hygiene. The healthcare professionals can only intervene and raise awareness to enhance the public's hand hygiene practises after they are aware of the public's perceptions of and barriers to hand hygiene. A private dental facility had 150 outpatients participate in this cross-sectional questionnaire survey. Ten questions addressing various facets of hand hygiene and perceived obstacles made up the survey. The information from Google Forms was then imported into SPSS Version 15 using Excel. Data were presented as frequencies and percentages after the chi square test, and a p value of 0.05 or less was regarded as statistically significant.. In our study, 92.62 percent of outpatients at a private facility said that they continue to take measures against COVID19. 83.89% of our patients agreed that good hand hygiene habits are crucial for preventing COVID19. Whereas 38.26% of outpatients claimed to only wash their hands for 30 seconds, 33.56% of outpatients claimed to wash their hands for a full minute. In contrast to the 48.32 percent who said hand sanitizer is best and important for hand hygiene, 51.68 percent of outpatients said soap and water is best and essential for hand hygiene. According to the study's findings, the participants had a reasonable understanding of hand hygiene and its significance. Yet, there is a need for greater awareness of the finishing details on touch surfaces. Thus, it is advised that media-based propaganda and awareness campaigns have a positive impact and should be kept up, with a stronger focus on the finer points. © 2023 IEEE.

PurposeThis paper is a commentary on COVID-19's impact on Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs), the system in England and Wales that enables learning from domestic abuse-related deaths.Design/methodology/approachDrawing on a practitioner–researcher perspective, this paper reflects on how COVID-19 affected the delivery and experience of DHRs, the place of victims at the heart of this process and what the pandemic's impact might mean moving forward.FindingsThis paper explicates some of the challenges of undertaking DHRs in a pandemic. Critically, however, it argues that these challenges illuminate broader questions about the practice of DHR.Originality/valueThis paper's originality comes from the author's practitioner–researcher perspective and its use of COVID-19 as a lens to consider DHRs.

ABSTRACT

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is still spreading worldwide and it has resulted in severe economic disruptions and unrivalled challenges to health-care system. Aims and Objectives: This study was planned to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, practice, and acceptability of COVID-19 vaccination among medical professionals. Material(s) and Method(s): A questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 276 medical professionals working in Puducherry using convenience sampling method. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaire. Descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages were computed. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS software 28.0 Version. Pearson's Chi-square analysis and multinomial regression analysis were performed. Result(s): Among the 276 respondents, 71 (25.7%) were affected with COVID-19 infection, 274 (99.2%) got vaccinated. Two doses were taken by 90.6% and 24 (8.7%) had received one dose of vaccination during the study period. Adequate knowledge was seen (P = 0.029) among the doctors who received two doses of vaccination (P = 0.019). Positive attitude was observed among the professionals who were vaccinated with CoviShield (P <= 0.001) and received two doses of vaccination (P = 0.003). About 79% of participants experienced common side effects due to vaccination. About 83.3% of participants were willing to take Booster dose and their choice of vaccine was CoviShield 76.4%, Covaxin 21.7%, and only 12% endorsed Sputnik V. About 69.2% of them have accepted that after mass vaccination campaigns, COVID-19 infection has been reduced. Conclusion(s): The present study findings showed adequate knowledge, favorable attitude, good practice, and acceptability of COVID-19 vaccination. Public health officials should utilize this opportunity and engage the medical professionals in educational campaigns which could reduce the misconceptions and alleviate the fear about the vaccination among the general population.Copyright © 2023, Mr Bhawani Singh. ABSTRACT

This chapter describe a Storytelling and Narrative Medicine pilot study which focused on communication in therapeutic settings. The research was carried out by a group of Italian Health Care professionals (HCP) from Calambrone Institute for Rehabilitation (IRC), at the IRCCS Stella Maris Foundation, along with a group of parents of patients with disabilities. However, because of the Covid-19 outbreak in Italy, many of the participants found themselves in lockdown in their own homes with their children. To evaluate the efficacy of storytelling as a tool for emotional and communication support, the authors submitted to both the HCP and parents two original online surveys to get information on their current emotional state. The assessed areas were personal stress, the relationship with children and family members, and the relationship with colleagues and professionals. The chapter focuses on emotional and psychological consequences that lack of social and therapeutic interactions might have produced. This short but effective educational intervention gives skills and knowledge to structure one's feelings and thoughts in a narrative form, equipping the participants with the resources to perceive themselves and their life experiences as the elements of the story. ABSTRACT

Background and Objectives: The effects of COVID-19 on surgical practice are extensive and include modifications to perioperative practice and ways of working, workforce and staffing difficulties, procedural prioritization, intraoperative viral transmission risk, and surgical training and education. There is a lack of information about the way this pandemic has impacted medical professionals because of surgical practice. Aims and Objectives: The current study's goal was to determine the dispersion of COVID 19 through patients to healthcare professionals utilising PPE during emergency surgeries. Material(s) and Method(s): The study was conducted as a hospital based retro prospective observational study at the Department of General Surgery, Government Medical College and hospital of central India. After receiving institutional ethical committee permission and the informed written consent, 36 patients receiving emergency surgeries during COVID-19 Era and 109 health care professionals involved in patient care were evaluated for the onset of any COVID 19 symptom for 5 days postoperatively. All the data collected were analyzed using SPSS statistical software version 26. Result(s): Among these 36 emergency surgeries patients, 86.1% (n=31) had COVID positive report during admission, mostly had complain of respiratory symptoms. Out of 16 COVID positive health workers, 81.25% (n=13) suffered from respiratory symptoms, 43.75% (n=7) had G.I symptoms and 12.50% (n=2) were asymptomatic. Analysis showed a positive relation between COVID positive status and depression in health care professionals (p=0.028). Out of 93 COVID negative health care workers involved in emergency surgeries, 90.32 % (n=84) were asymptomatic. Only 9.67% (n=9) health care workers had respiratory symptoms and 2.1% (n=2) had gastrointestinal symptoms. Conclusion(s): The current study may aid in the development of mitigation measures to enhance mental well-being, as well as the identification of factors of poor mental state and therapies to treat people suffering from a mental condition. Postoperative assessments in a digital environment on an individual basis allow team members to voice their worries and comments to the system as a mitigating technique. Evidence-based training and education for HCWs on pandemic preparation has been shown to be critical for improving hospital staff expertise, abilities, and mental well-being during a pandemic.Copyright © 2023, Dr. Yashwant Research Labs Pvt. A variety of patient care and intelligent health systems can benefit from the implementation of artificial intelligence as a tool to aid caregivers. Machine learning and deep learning are two types of AI that are increasingly being used in the medical industry. Artificial intelligence methods require a large amount of clinical data from a range of imaging modalities for correct disease diagnosis. In addition, AI has greatly enhanced the quality of hospital stays, allowing patients to be released sooner and complete their recoveries at home. This article aims to provide the information on the field of AI subset i.e., machine learning-based disease detection with information that will aid them in making better decision making. This helps the researchers to classify the medical conditions in patients with a prominent dataset.

The New Zealand Institute of Environmental Health (NZIEH) is a nongovernmental institute for all environmental health professionals in New Zealand. In 2021, NZIEH held its annual conference as an online virtual event for the first time. One inclusion to the program was an evolving outbreak scenario delivered in installments including "injects" of information (i.e., inserts of information relevant to the scenario) that mimic the evolution of a real-life epidemiological outbreak investigation. Questions were posed to attendees related to each added information inject. The scenario also included discussion in virtual breakout rooms that allowed attendees to network and reach consensus before responding to questions;discussions were also initiated by the scenario facilitators. Details of the scenario, its aims, evaluation of success, and limitations of this approach are discussed.

Background. Nurses' high workload can result in depressive symptoms. However, the research has underexplored the internal and external variables, such as organisational support, career identity, and burnout, which may predict depressive symptoms among Chinese nurses via machine learning (ML). Aim. To predict nurses' depressive symptoms and identify the relevant factors by machine learning (ML) algorithms. Methods. A self-administered smartphone questionnaire was delivered to nurses to evaluate their depressive symptoms;1,431 questionnaires and 28 internal and external features were collected. In the training set, the use of maximum relevance minimum redundancy ranked the features' importance. Five ML algorithms were used to establish models to identify nurses' depressive symptoms using different feature subsets, and the area under the curve (AUC) determined the optimal feature subset. Demographic characteristics were added to the optimal feature subset to establish the combined models. Each model's performance was evaluated using the test set. Results. The prevalence rate of depressive symptoms among Chinese nurses was 31.86%. The optimal feature subset comprised of sleep disturbance, chronic fatigue, physical fatigue, exhaustion, and perceived organisation support. The five models based on the optimal feature subset had good prediction performance on the test set (AUC: 0.871–0.895 and accuracy: 0.798–0.815). After adding the significant demographic characteristics, the performance of the five combined models slightly improved;the AUC and accuracy increased to 0.904 and 0.826 on the test set, respectively. The logistic regression analysis results showed the best and most stable performance while the univariate analysis results showed that external and internal personal features (AUC: 0.739–0.841) were more effective than demographic characteristics (AUC: 0.572–0.588) for predicting nurses' depressive symptoms. Conclusions. ML could effectively predict nurses' depressive symptoms. Interventions to manage physical fatigue, sleep disorders, burnout, and organisational support may prevent depressive symptoms.

O artigo sistematiza as ações das/os Assistentes Sociais vinculadas/os a um curso de residência multiprofissional em saúde da família cuja atuação ocorreu na Atenção Primária em Saúde (APS), durante a pandemia do novo coronavírus, num contexto de reorganização dos serviços de saúde e do trabalho das/os profissionais do setor. Pretende-se contribuir com as reflexões sobre a dimensão técnico-operativa da Profissão abordando aspectos do trabalho no Núcleo Ampliado em Saúde da Família (NASF) neste período de excepcionalidade. A sistematização foi realizada a partir dos registros em diários de campo elaborados pelas/os profissionais entre os meses de março a setembro de 2020. Os principais resultados indicam que a crise sanitária aprofundou as desigualdades sociais demandando ações profissionais predominantemente socioeducativas voltadas ao acesso da população aos serviços e direitos sociais que amparam e oferecem condições de vida diante das mudanças provocadas pela pandemia. A reorganização requerida no processo coletivo de trabalho nos serviços de saúde implicou em alterações dos fluxos de acesso aos serviços e direitos sociais. Significa que, no período analisado, predominaram demandas profissionais de gestão e planejamento seja envolvendo a elaboração de materiais informativos de suporte às ações educativas, divulgação de informações pertinentes à população usuária do SUS, bem como de instrução às equipes multiprofissionais quanto aos benefícios sociais disponibilizados para mitigar os efeitos da pandemia. As ações socioeducativas voltadas para mobilização e assessoria político-organizativas apresentaram-se imprescindíveis para concretizar o acesso às práticas coletivas de controle social atentas à universalidade do direito à saúde.Alternate :This article systematizes the actions of social assistants associated to a multi-professional residency course in family health, undertaken within the Primary Healthcare System, during the new coronavirus pandemic, in a context of reorganization of healthcare services and the labor of professionals in the sector. Its objective is to contribute to reflections about the technical-operative dimension of the profession, addressing aspects of work by the Expanded Family Healthcare Nucleus in this exceptional period. The systematization was conducted through registers in field diaries prepared by the professionals from March to September 2020. The main results indicate that the sanitary crisis deepened social inequalities, requiring predominantly educational professional actions aimed at the population's access to social rights and services that support better living conditions, considering changes provoked by the pandemic. The reorganization required in the collective work process in healthcare services involved alterations in the flows of access to social services and rights. This means that, in the period analyzed, there was a predominance of professional demands related to administration and planning, that involved the elaboration of informative materials to support educational actions, the promotion of pertinent information to the population that uses Brazil's federal public single healthcare system, and providing instructions to multi-professional teams about social benefits available to mitigate the effects of the pandemic. The socio-educational actions aimed at mobilization and political-organizational assistance were essential to realizing access to collective practices of social control focused on the universal right to healthcare.

ABSTRACT

PurposeIn today's challenging world, achieving professional commitment among healthcare workers is becoming the need of time. Drawing on self-determination theory, the current study examines how and under which boundary conditions perceived organizational support affects professional commitment.Design/methodology/approachData was collected from doctors and nurses employed in public and private sector hospitals by employing a split-questionnaire design.FindingsThe authors' study findings demonstrate that perceived organizational support has a positive and indirect effect on the professional commitment of nurses and doctors via mediating the role of subjective well-being. The authors also found that these findings depend on healthcare workers' burnout levels. The positive relationship between perceived organizational support and subjective well-being is attenuated by burnout syndrome.Practical implicationsThe current study poses implications for policymakers and administrators of healthcare institutions as well as to develop a supportive culture to evoke more professional commitment among healthcare workers. Implications for nursing managers and policymakers are discussed in light of the study findings.Originality/valueHealthcare institutions are increasingly paying attention to raising the professional commitment of their workforce, especially in the wake of a crisis like the COVID-19 outbreak. The current study will add to the body of literature on nursing management, healthcare studies and organizational psychology in the South Asian context by explaining the relationship between POS and professional commitment, drawing on self-determination theory.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThe paper aims to clarify the validity of the digital marketing model for software IT professionals. It proposes a model of buying behavior practices followed in digital era and outlining all six critical factors that were considered for developing this model. So the main objective of the study is to validate the success of digital marketing model through a survey-based results and case study analysis and synthesize the results for the success of digital marketing model for software development industry.Design/methodology/approachThe paper opted for an exploratory study using the structured questionnaire. The data were collected using online platform. The present study covers the analysis of a survey of 406 IT professionals from software development industry to understand their buying behavior through digital marketing. Regression technique has been used to find the important predictors of the digital marketing model with its impact on the demographic variables.FindingsThe paper provides empirical insights about digital marketing model whose validity has been checked by synthesizing the results of both overall and case study. The results show that predictors elucidate Durbin-Watson in the acceptable range and are suitable for the model.Research limitations/implicationsData were collected during Covid period. So it was quite a challenging task and moreover sample size could not be increased due to this problem.Practical implicationThe paper includes implications for the development of digital marketing model for software IT professionals. Finally, this study will contribute to the further research for many prominent researchers who express their doubts about the state and future of digital marketing studies, characterized by contradictory and confusing empirical findings. A larger quantitative study on IT companies' digital marketing from different regions is recommended as a future line of research in order to encourage the unique globalized level model development.Social implicationsMany organizations use digital marketing successfully since with the great amount of awareness generated about the digitalization among the customers has propelled for its development.Originality/valueThis paper fulfills an identified need to study how IT professional's digital buying marketing practices need to be studied.
